Popular Ring Settings for your Pink Diamond

Showcase Your Pink Diamond Purchase

A pink diamond from Argyle Diamond Investments speaks volumes about its owner and, whilst the rarity of diamonds is debated, their astounding, individual beauty is not.

The most difficult part of buying an iridescent pink diamond is thinking about how best to showcase it, but one of the most common ways to enjoy a diamond is in a ring. Timeless jewellery pieces such as rings have so many styles available that it is difficult to know where to begin.

Cut, carat, colour and clarity are the most important elements of your Pink Diamond investment and for these to be shown in their best possible way, the stone or stones need to interact with light. The part of the ring that has the largest effect on light is the Ring Setting. So, as we help you in your journey to find the perfect ring, let us show you the most popular ring settings.

What is a Ring Setting?

What is a Ring Setting?

A Ring Setting is a piece of metal that holds the diamond in place. It is easy to assume that this is only done in one way, or that different settings are chosen for aesthetic appeal and, whilst the latter partially is true, the former is not. Different Ring Settings are chosen for different reasons but the settings in this article will be discussed in relation to pink diamonds in particular.

Ring Setting Types

There are some specific benefits associated with different ring settings that you may wish to consider when deciding upon a style for your pink diamond ring – not all stones are held in the same way.

Prong Setting

A prong setting is the most common setting, due to its elegant simplicity: 6 metal prongs will rise from the shoulder of the ring in a gentle claw-like fashion and grip the stone or stones being showcased. This style uses less precious metal than other styles and consequently allows a relatively large amount of light into your Pink Argyle Diamond. Prong settings can wear down over time, possibly catching on clothing and they tend to soil easier than other styles. But the payoff is fantastic – The central diamond will be held suitably high to show off its size, cut and sparkle…sensational, with maximum ‘wow’ factor.

It is possible to style your prongs in many ways, such as with Twist, Trellis, Illusion and Tiffany settings – all of which are beautiful variations on a theme.

Cathedral Setting

When considering the depth of your Pink Diamond from Argyle Diamond Investments, you will also be considering how tall you wish your ring to be. The tallest of prong settings is known as a Cathedral Setting, where the prongs arch inward, raising the central stone or stones in its girdle. A Cathedral setting allows the full stone to be placed on show, as it should be. Elegantly classic, a pink diamond ring with a Cathedral Setting is timeless.

Bezel Setting

A bezel setting is formed by a long, thin metal rim surrounding the diamond and following its contours. This type of setting is very secure (there are no gaps for a diamond to move through, unlike prong settings) and the look is minimal, modern and sleek.

Semi Bezel and Tension Settings

Less light is able to reach your Australian Pink Diamond, with a Bexel Setting, because it is fully encircled. One solution to this problem is the use of a semi bezel, where two bands of metal hold the diamond, encasing half of it.

Another beautiful statement option is a tension setting where a solid metal band ring is split open and a diamond is placed between the two arms of the ring – stunning to witness.

Accent Settings

When wishing to make the most of a beautiful Pink Diamond, you may want to draw more attention to the setting by adding accent stones. This can be done by adding other precious gems around the central stone, known as a Halo setting, or around the shoulders and shank of the ring metal itself, known as Pavé and Channel Settings.

Halo Setting

A Halo setting places a ring of precious stones around a central stone – like a halo. The central stone is usually larger and the satellite stones are usually uniform in shape.

This type of setting can be used to highlight the central stone’s colour, by using satellite stones that contrast, or, another benefit of a Halo setting is to make the central stone look larger and this effect works best if all the stones are the same colour. Beautiful to behold, empowering to wear.

In a Halo Setting, the central Pink Argyle Diamond is surrounded which limits the light that is able to enter the stone. For this reason, Halo settings are ideal for darker toned pieces.

Pavé and Channel Settings

Pavé and Channel settings refer to the inclusion of multiple satellite stones around the metal portion of the ring. This can demand a large amount of light to the ring and offer more sparkle than the central stone might have done alone. Channel setting place the stones inside channels in the metal, whereas Pavé settings can place accent stones on top of the metal using mini prongs. In simple terms, Pavé Settings allow more light into the diamonds, but Channel settings are more secure.
